Writers’ Workshop: Celebrate the Authors!

Last week we celebrated all the little writers at our school. The teachers have been diligently implementing Writers’ Workshop and the students have been busy creating personal narratives. Each student chose one of their stories to lift, meaning they chose one to refine and polish in order to publish.

Parents, teachers, high school students, and community members were invited to come and listen to the writers read their stories. Our turnout was amazing! I haven’t run the numbers officially, but I believe we had about 80% of parents in attendance!

Each student had their writing out and ready to be shared, there were colorful notecards for the readers to leave messages for the writer, there were snacks (of course), and some teachers had author bios on display!

At first, my favorite part of the day was seeing the young writers come alive with excitement about their work and also seeing how strong the writing was K4-7th grade! I could SEE all the hard work. But, afterward, when I looked through the pictures, my new favorite part was the happiness exuding from the parents and students. I love that they had the opportunity to commemorate their accomplishments!

Our next party will be our informational party! Can’t wait!
